A unique and innovative process to allow choice for wool growers who wish to have easy handling breeched sheep, especially for ease of crutching and shearing management. The Process also decreasing the reliance of chemical use for prevention of breech flystrike.
The targeted sections of skin surrounding the breech undergo a freeze- thaw cycle. The whole skin depth undergoes a rapid brief freeze, through the patented application process, resulting in a de-innervation or cessation of sensory skin nerve function, immediately post application, rendering the areas numb. The animal impact is minimal as verified by our veterinary supervised Average Growth Rate studies in 2017. We view SFB as a transitional stepping stone to allow the required improvements in animal genetics for the consistent breeding of plainer breeches with minimisation of associated lost wool production. In this transitional phase, it allows for the industry to supply non mulesed wool to our international customers with the added benefits of significant animal production outcomes with associated and substantial ethical animal welfare benefits for the sheep and the woolgrowers.
